Coral Ark Foundation

Mission

The Coral Ark Foundation is dedicated to protecting and restoring coral reefs, one of the most threatened ecosystems on Earth. Based in the UK, the Foundation will establish the country’s first land-based coral ark – a secure refuge for endangered species – while driving global impact through research, restoration, and education.

By growing corals locally, we reduce reliance on wild collection, cut the carbon footprint of imports, and ensure biosecure, resilient stock for both conservation and sustainable trade. Our work will create a hub of innovation, supporting UK science, inspiring public engagement, and contributing to international reef recovery efforts.

From nurseries to education, from conservation partnerships to sustainable enterprise, the Coral Ark Foundation represents hope: a chance to preserve biodiversity, empower communities, and protect the oceans for future generations.

Coral reefs represent some of the world's most spectacular beauty spots, but they are also the foundation of marine life: without them many of the sea's most exquisite species will not survive.

REGULATORY COMPLIANCE

At Coral Ark Foundation, we take our legal and environmental responsibilities seriously. As a UK-based charitable organisation with a coral farming and research facility, we operate in full compliance with all relevant regulatory frameworks. We are registered with the Charity Commission as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) and ensure that our trading arm meets Companies House and HMRC requirements.

All coral imports and exports are managed under DEFRA and APHA oversight, with the appropriate CITES permits in place. Our aquaculture operations are aligned with CEFAS regulations, including the maintenance of a robust Biosecurity Measures Plan to prevent the spread of disease, invasive species, or pathogens.

Where applicable, we work with the Environment Agency to ensure that water use and discharge meet environmental standards. By adhering to these strict regulations, we ensure that our conservation, research, and trading activities are conducted responsibly, transparently, and with the highest standards of environmental stewardship.
